Fun and tasty evening

I’m not much of a cook, but this class made it so easy! The chef explained every step clearly, and making paella and sangria was so fun. I loved using the big paella pan and learning why saffron is important. Sitting down together to eat what we made was a perfect ending. I’ll definitely make this at home!

Delicious and relaxed

This cooking class felt like a real dinner party. The unlimited sangria was amazing, and I learned how to make it just right. I loved that we used real fresh oranges and red wine. The chef shared stories about Spanish food culture, which made it even better. After cooking, everyone sat down to eat like a big family, and we all laughed a lot. A real highlight of my trip!

Cooking Class Madrid

LEARN IN THE CENTER OF MADRID

Join Cooking Class Madrid for a hands-on cooking experience right in the city center. Whether you’re a beginner or just love food, this class is designed to be easy, welcoming, and fun. The class is held at a cozy, fully-equipped kitchen near Puerta del Sol. A friendly local chef will walk you through each step. It's also more than just a class, it's a chance to learn Spanish culture through food. Everything you need is provided; you just need to bring your appetite.

MAKE AUTHENTIC PAELLA AND SANGRIA

You’ll start by preparing a homemade sangria. The main ingredients are local red wine, chopped fruit, spices, and a few secrets your chef will share. Did you know sangria has roots in Roman times, when water was often mixed with wine and herbs to make it safe to drink? It also wasn’t originally sweet. Fruit and sugar came much later to suit tourist tastes. You’ll also learn how to adjust your sangria to make it stronger, sweeter, or more citrusy. Then, dive into making traditional paella using a real paella pan, just as it has been done for centuries in Valencia. You’ll cook with ingredients like chicken, prawns, green beans, saffron, and paprika. Vegetarian options are also available in case you need them. As you cook, you’ll also learn the history behind paella and what makes it one of Spain’s most beloved dishes.

EAT TOGETHER AND TAKE RECIPES HOME

Once your paella is ready and the sangria is chilled, you’ll sit down with your classmates. You'll enjoy your meal together with unlimited sangria served throughout the dinner. Your chef will share fun stories about Madrid and Spanish food traditions. Before you head out, you will receive printed recipes of the dish you made. You can then use them to make everything at home and impress your friends and family.

  • Saffron, a key ingredient in traditional paella, was once very valuable. It was even locked away in royal Spanish kitchens. It was also worth more than gold by weight.
  • Spain features the Mediterranean diet, noted by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. This diet is celebrated for its health benefits and social customs, such as shared meals.
  • Tapas were once covers for drinks. Originally, slices of bread or meat were placed over wine glasses to keep out flies. The word tapa means “lid”.
  • In Spain, people stay at the table to talk long after the meal has ended. This is called La sobremesa, and it is a cherished Spanish tradition.
  • Olive oil is a staple in Spanish cooking. Spain is the world's leading producer and exporter of olive oil, with the majority of production coming from Andalusia.
  • In Spain, lunch is the biggest meal of the day and usually happens around 2 or 3 PM. Dinner often starts as late as 9 or 10 PM, much later than in most countries.
